J OF THE DAY – Why you should always speak your truth

Discerning right from wrong, is a fundamental quality that was instilled in us by our parents from the beginning of our lives. Our parents teach us what we should do and what we should avoid. Over time though our perception of what we should and should not do tends to change. It is not that we forget, but rather it is the internal battle that goes on within us becomes more intense.

Ever since we have developed the ability to feel and think for ourselves, there has been a constant internal battle within us. It is going on below our level of conscience. The battle takes place in the deepest depths of our soul. The winner of that battle though, often determines our character and direction in life. It is the battle between our higher and lower self. A struggle between what we feel like doing and what we should be doing.

The lower self is our instinctual/emotional part of ourselves, which is the more animalistic part of our nature. The higher self is responsible for reasoning, rationality, and logic. This higher version of self is unique to us as humans. We have the ability to understand what we should be doing and think rationally in different situations. Animals do not have this quality, they can only act off instinct.

It is easy to give in to our impulses and let our lower version of self win these internal battles. We don’t have to give any effort to control it. The lowest forms of our character tend to takeover because they do not require any attention or any thought. We have to learn how to listen to our higher version of self, so we can make better decisions, build better relationships, and preserve or own happiness and inner peace.

We have to learn how to listen to our higher version of self, so we can make better decisions, build better relationships, and preserve or own happiness and inner peace.

How our higher self creates purpose:

This higher self is not just helpful for responding to others and making decisions. It is also helpful in establishing our purpose and creating meaning in our lives. In his book “The laws of human nature,” the author Robert Greene talks about this idea of inner authority. This inner authority is our higher self. It acts as our voice of reasoning, and what we should be doing. Greene describes it as the voice that dictates our code of behavior.

Our inner authority is designed to help us realize that it is our honor, not privilege to be a human on Earth and a member of society. We were not put on Earth to simply exist and take up air and space. There is a reason why we are all here and it is our duty to be a contributor to society. Just like all those who came before us, it should be our mission to contribute to the advancement of society. In other words, leave the world a better place than when you arrived.

We have the luxury of learning from many years of knowledge, wisdom, and experience. We are the beneficiaries of the thoughts and work of many great people who have come before us. Their contributions paved the way for us, and have made our lives much easier and more enjoyable. This inner authority, or higher self, is not only meant to help us think rationally and logically. It helps us understand that we are responsible for the continuous advancement of society.

As time moves forward, new problems will continue to surface. We are responsible for identifying those problems and coming up with proper solutions for them. The world is far from perfect, but if we are not trying to move in that direction, we are going backwards. Part of our purpose as individuals is to work for the greater good. To help those who come after us have a easier and more enjoyable life.

We are the beneficiaries of the thoughts and work of many great people who have come before us. Their contributions paved the way for us, and have made our lives much easier and more enjoyable.

It is not just our duty to absorb the lessons and knowledge of those who came before us. It is also our responsibility to create and add to the advancement of society. We need to speak our truth. Hiding our truth from the world is a slap in the face to all those who came before us. What if Albert Einstein or Martin Luther King Jr. decided to never speak their truth? What is stopping you from speaking your truth? You will die one day, it could be any day. What is the point of going to the grave with these truths? Your truths could change someone else’s life. It could solve a problem that many people face. Let others hear your voice.

Giving into our impulses makes us weak and selfish. Surrendering to our impulses make us take for granted all the luxuries we have that have been given to us by those who lived before we did. Make the days count. Having a mentality of just getting through the day makes us take for granted the precious time we have. It is not our job to fit in, but rather stand out. Our time is limited, and giving into our impulses and instincts only makes that time feel like it’s going by faster. Maximize your time and your opportunities, because you can’t get them back.

As a member of society, you are tasked with the responsibility of helping in the advancement of society. If you have a head full of ideas, it’s your obligation to share them with the world. What we feel like doing is not always what we should be doing. Think about your actions and how they can be used to benefit the greater good. Instead of how they can only benefit yourself. Let your truth be heard and use it to benefit those who are not only alive, but those who will come long after you.
