Our lives are not determined by one choice or one action. The quality of our life is determined by the entire collection of our choices and actions. This is only untrue if, you do something hennas, like kill someone. For the most part, life offers us the opportunity to improve our behavior and correct our decisions and actions. We always have control over our lives. We can grow from our failures and mistakes.
If you fail at something you are not a failure. If you succeed at something, it doesn’t mean you are a success. In order to become a failure, you have to repeatedly fail time and time again. If you want to be considered a success, you must achieve success consistently.

Ultimately it is our habits that dictate the direction of our lives. Our habits are in control of our destiny. Habits are what we consistently and repeatedly do, day in and day out. Our habits are deeply ingrained in us and often times we have no control over them. Sometimes we don’t even know why we do them. We become like programmed machines, just going through the motions. This produces the same results time after time.
If you are unhappy with the direction of your life or the results you are getting, it may be time to change your habits. Habits are not easy to reverse or change. We may be able to alter our habits for a day or two, but habits are recurring, they continue to control us if we are not conscious about changing them. It takes about three weeks to remove an old habit and adopt new habits.
Our habits are ultimately responsible for our character. We are what we repeatedly do. If we possess a negative attitude, are unfriendly toward others, and don’t consider the consequences of our actions, that becomes ingrained into are character. Our character cannot be good if our actions our bad. Our character is not set in stone. In other words, we have the ability to both lose our character and build it up. Our character can only change if we do. With others, the easiest way to determine the character of someone else is by the habits they possess.

If we want to achieve our highest potential and live our highest quality of life, our habits must be consistent with that. If you strive for growth and development every day, you will eventually accomplish whatever you set out to do. Show up every day and decide to make each day as good as it possibly can be. Our habits determine our ability to grow and achieve our full potential. Our habits must support this growth.

Gratitude – Take time each day and think about 3 things that you are grateful for. It could be helpful to find 3 things that are specific to each day. Be specific as possible when showing gratitude.
Reading – Every day you should strive to learn something new. Reading books allows for that opportunity. Read across different genres and time periods.
Reflection – Look back on your day and evaluate your thoughts, actions, and emotions from the day. Think about what you did well and what you want to improve on moving forward.
Thinking long-term – It is important to not lose sight of your vision or big picture. Do no get discouraged in the day to day stressors or problems. Focusing on your big picture will keep you motivated and optimistic.
Putting others ahead of you – Do not just think about your personal needs. Those are obviously important, but do not forget about those around you. Think about how you can make someone’s day or simply do something for someone else.
These are just a few habits that support growth. Working in these habits will take discipline and commitment. There will be days that you get discouraged or simply don’t feel like doing them. Remember that your habits are responsible for your direction in life. You cannot achieve your full potential and live your highest quality life without good habits that support growth. The quality of your life is determined by the vast collection of decisions you make and actions you take.
