J OF THE DAY – Don’t let next year become never

Procrastination is an issue everyone has faced or currently faces in their life. We think of an idea and instead of acting on it, we wait. The reason we procrastinate and wait to take action on our ideas is because we think there will be a perfect time. We think next month or next year will be the right time. The next year becomes never. The truth is that perfect timing doesn’t exist for getting started on your ideas.

The perfect time is always right now. The more that you think about something, the less likely you are to take action. When you think instead of do, you find all the reasons why you shouldn’t take action. You will end up convincing yourself that you or your idea is not good enough.

If you do this process with one idea, it is likely you will do it again with future ideas. As this process continues, you never put any action to your ideas. This is a waste of your creative powers. You don’t want to go through life being someone who has great ideas but never does anything with them. This only leads to regret. Don’t look back on your life and think about what could have been.

An idea is worthless without action. Everything we have in our world all started from an idea. Ideas can come from anyone and from anywhere. Ideas can make you rich beyond your wildest dreams. It is true that few people ever take action on their ideas. If they did, then everyone in the world would be reach.

You say that next year is the year you will start a business, or next year you will go back to school, or next year you will create a course. Don't let next year become never.
An idea is worthless without action. Everything we have in our world all started from an idea.

You don’t lose anything by at least trying. Of course, your idea could fail. Ideas fail every single day. Don’t worry about failure, worry about effort and action. Action removes regret. When you look back on your life, you can at least find satisfaction in knowing that you took action. While some ideas will fail, if you continue to take action, some ideas will be a success. Sometimes all you need is one good idea and you can become set for life.

While taking action right away is typically the best way to go, some ideas require you to wait. Maybe you have to raise money, or find a business partner, or get a certification, or some third parties approval. In other words, there are certain factors that you have to take into consideration when it comes to taking action. Depending on your idea, you may be required to jump through some hoops before you get started. Whatever it is that you have to do, don’t put it on the back burner. If you have to raise money or find a partner, you can start on that right away. The longer you take the longer your idea gets pushed back.

Setting a time frame for your ideas

Say now is not the right time, maybe it will be better if you wait until next year. You say that next year is the year you will start a business, or next year you will go back to school, or next year you will create a course. Don’t let next year become never. When you give yourself a long time frame to get started, it is the same thing as when you think too much about your idea. You end up convincing yourself it is not worth it. You think a year is a long time so you are slow to take action. During the course of that year, if you procrastinate you will convince yourself that your idea is not worth it. Now your next year has become never. Another wasted idea.

When planning your ideas, give yourself a short time frame to take action. Tell yourself that you are going to start and finish within 2 months. This will apply a little bit of pressure on yourself. Enough pressure to hold you accountable while preventing you from feeling overwhelmed. It is a healthy type of pressure that forces you to take consistent action. Maybe you don’t finish in exactly 2 months but you at least will have made substantial progress. A year is too long. Way too much can happen within a year. Shorter time frames will increase your motivation.

Never tell yourself that your idea is stupid or you are not good enough to make it happen. Overthinking your ideas will only lead to inaction. The perfect time to take action on your ideas is right now. If you cannot take action right now, give yourself a reasonable time frame. Don’t let next year become never. Everything in our world started from an idea. Your ideas have the power to change the world for the better. Procrastination will only make you doubt yourself and your ideas. Do not be the person that is sitting on their death bed with a head full of ideas that never became anything. Most importantly, don’t let next year become never.
