Coach Johnathan Edwards: Playing against NBA competition, learning the psychology of coaching, and the realities of playing college basketball
/

In this episode we are joined by Coach Johnathan Edwards. Coach Edwards is currently the head coach at Walnut Grove Christian Academy. We learn about Coach Edwards’ inspiration behind wanting to be a coach, playing against Anthony Davis in college, learning from successful D1 coaches, and how being injured allowed him to learn the game from a different perspective.

We also talk to Coach Edwards about his role as a certified recruiting coach. He shares with us about how playing college sports is really a full-time job, why so many kids are transferring these days, and some of the most underrated talent producing areas of the country. We also get into why most people in life avoid doing hard things, including hard coaching and accountability.

Finally, in today’s “explain that tweet” segment, we dive into how Coach Edwards learned he can’t save every kid, why adults are ruining youth sports, and the changes he would make to the grassroots model in youth basketball.

“What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a basketball player.” – John Wooden.

We want to provide consultation to basketball coaches and teams to help them establish or improve their player development programs. We want to be a place where coaches, players, and really athletes of all kind come to receive tools, guidance, and support for their mindset development and mental health.
